Preparing for your trip to Sri Lanka involves much more than choosing your destinations and packing your bags. It is crucial to ensure that you have the right adapters for your electronic devices in order to fully enjoy your stay without any electrical hassles.
Voltage and Frequency
Sri Lanka uses the same voltage and frequency as France: 230 Volts, single phase, with a frequency of 50 Hz. This means that if you come from France or many other European countries, your electrical appliances should work without problem once plugged into an appropriate outlet.
Types of Sockets in Sri Lanka
Sri Lankan hotels are generally equipped with two main types of sockets:
- British Type Sockets (Type G): Recognized by their rectangular plugs, these sockets are often used in the United Kingdom and other countries using similar electrical systems.
- Indian Type Sockets (Type D): These sockets have three round plugs arranged in a triangle. They are commonly used in India and parts of Africa.
Need Adapters
To plug your electronic devices into these Sri Lankan outlets, you will need an adapter. However, there is a little trick to get around a particularity of the type D socket: the plug at the top of the triangle is not connected to the electricity. To solve this problem, simply insert the tip of a pen into this card, and that's it!
